The Rock underwent surgery to repair a triple-hernia, from his wrestling days, just two weeks before Hercules filming began. He told Ratner, "I'm here for you" and reassured him he would be good to go for filming. Ratner said Rock was able to rehabilitate himself probably five times faster than anyone else would have been able to do.
